Before you craft: plan your first factory
IndustrialCraft 2 Classic turns the usual survival progression into an engineering project. Instead of building every machine you can afford, start with a small system: fuel or power source → EU generation → machine → finished resources. Place your first machines with enough room to expand, and keep spare materials for cables, upgrades and storage.
This guide explains the general IC2 Classic workflow. Recipes, output quantities, energy limits and individual machines can vary with the mod release or a server's configured modpack. On KRAYMO Industrial, always use the recipes shown by the published client.
Step 1. Generate your first EU
The Generator is a straightforward entry point into EU power. Once built, check its GUI and supported fuel rather than guessing from an older video. Make sure it is producing or buffering EU before adding electrical machines. A small, dependable source is more useful at this stage than a complicated power plant.
Arrange the Generator so you can reach it, inspect its supply and connect to your first machine. Later, a storage block can help buffer energy supply when multiple machines are active. For cable and storage details, see the KRAYMO EU power guide.
Step 2. Start processing with a Macerator
A Macerator processes supported items, including certain ores, into intermediate materials. It introduces the most important Industrial habit: checking input recipes, EU supply and available output space. Some familiar IC2 recipes may offer more efficient resource processing than vanilla smelting, but do not assume every ore doubles in every configuration.
- Check the required Macerator recipe in your current version of the modpack.
- Feed the machine with EU from a compatible source or network.
- Try one supported input item and inspect the output.
- Expand only after the first processing cycle succeeds.
Step 3. Add an Electric Furnace
The Electric Furnace consumes EU to smelt applicable materials. Together, the first processing machines turn manual mining into a repeatable line: ore → Macerator → processed material → Electric Furnace → storage. Start by moving the output manually until you are sure the input and output recipes are compatible.
Once the generator can keep up with demand, think about physical layout: inputs on one side, processing in the centre, outputs and storage on the other. That makes later automation much easier to maintain.
Step 4. Expand with cables and EU storage
When a second machine or longer processing session starts to stretch your power supply, consider suitable cables and an EU storage block. Check input and output orientation and the allowed power tier before connecting equipment. Different IC2 Classic versions may enforce electrical limits differently; test a simple network first rather than risking expensive equipment.
If a machine stops, inspect its energy indicator, the generator fuel, the cable path and the machine's current recipe. Do not assume that a visible cable is delivering usable power.
Step 5. Choose the next machine by need
A Compressor and Extractor support additional material-processing routes. You do not have to build both immediately. Pick the next machine based on the exact recipe that blocks your progression, then gather the required resources. When manual operation becomes repetitive, add inventory and output automation gradually.
First factory build order
| Stage | First objective | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Resources | Mine and collect fuel | Enough materials to craft and run the first system |
| EU | Build a Generator | Power for electrical machinery |
| Processing | Build a Macerator | Process compatible ores and materials |
| Smelting | Add an Electric Furnace | Finish suitable processed materials |
| Expansion | Storage, cables, other machines | More stable supply and scalable production |
Common beginner mistakes
The Macerator won't start
Check EU supply, required recipe, valid input, output capacity and machine readiness. Some modpack versions use altered recipes.
I added a cable, but the machine has no power
Verify that the generator actually produces EU; trace the entire cable path; check storage orientation and power tiers in the current mod version.
My recipe differs from a YouTube tutorial
Older IC2 tutorials often use a different Minecraft or IC2 release. Follow the recipe viewer inside your current build rather than blindly copying an outdated crafting grid.
Can I join a server with my own modpack?
Only if the server's configuration explicitly supports it. KRAYMO's Windows launcher provides the project's intended client and avoids manual version mixing.
