IC2 Classic progression: from your first machine to a factory

Industrial survival is a progression journey. Rather than rushing to the most expensive machine, focus on a repeatable resource loop, enough electricity and a base you can safely expand. The following stages describe a general IC2 Classic approach; individual modpacks can change recipes and unlocks.

Stage 1: Prepare basic survival

Find a defensible location, set up food and storage, and collect a steady supply of iron and other common materials. Keep ores and fuel sorted. Plan an industrial room with expansion space and separate input and output paths.

Stage 2: Generate your first EU

Create a compatible early-game generator and connect one electrical machine. A small, stable setup is easier to repair than a large untested network. Leave room for additional cables and a battery or storage block.

Stage 3: Improve ore processing

A macerator or similar material-processing machine helps increase the value of mining time. Add an electric furnace or other relevant machines when the power network can support them. Watch where materials accumulate and whether a machine has a free output slot.

Stage 4: Build reliable storage

As machines multiply, power demand becomes less predictable. Storage acts as a buffer and lets you work on a larger project without immediately interrupting everything else. Separate optional machines from essential infrastructure where possible.

Stage 5: Automate production

Choose a small, useful chain first: input collection, processing, sorting and output storage. Add the transport or automation mechanisms your actual modpack supports. Avoid loops and excessive entities that can affect the game server's performance.

Stage 6: Explore advanced technology

More capable power systems, complex materials and eventually advanced reactor concepts expand what is possible. Verify cooling and compatibility thoroughly, and follow any mode-specific limits on risky machines.
